    This was our one-week academic trip to Russia, presenting a paper at DTGS 2019 Conference hosted by ITMO University in St. Petersburg. However, sightseeing was prioritised in this country we’ve never been before.

  • Church of the Saviour on Blood

    One of the main sights of Saint Petersburg. Other names include the Church on Spilled Blood, the Temple of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

  • Eliseyev Emporium

    A large retail and entertainment complex designed by Gabriel Baranovskii. Constructed in 1902–1903 for the Elisseeff Brothers, it is one of the most striking examples of St. Petersburg Art Nouveau architecture.

  • Winter Palace

    The Winter Palace was the official residence of the Russian Emperors for over 150 years until the October Revolution in 1917. Today, the palace and its precincts form the State Hermitage Museum.

  • St. Isaac Cathedral

    A cathedral that currently functions as a museum in Saint Petersburg. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint.

  • St. Basil's Cathedral

    A church in Red Square in Moscow regarded as a symbol of Russia. The building is officially known as the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat or Pokrovsky Cathedral.

  • State Historical Museum

    A museum of Russian history wedged between Red Square and Manege Square in Moscow. Its exhibitions range from relics of prehistoric tribes, to priceless artworks acquired by the Romanov family.

  • Komsomolskaya Station

    One of the most imposing stations of the Moscow Metro. Named after the young communists Komsomoltsy, it was designed to fulfil the expectations of the Metro as being the "Palace for the People".
